Neptune’s Dream
Embark on the compelling journey behind "Neptune’s Dream," which began as a melody flowing effortlessly on a Yamaha grand piano, like pouring water into a glass. This serendipitous moment sparked a songwriting odyssey, unfolding at the renowned Avatar Studios in Malibu. Deemed too progressive for its time, our then-label, Narada, decided to omit the piece from the "Soft Wave" album. However, this bold creation couldn't be silenced.
The day of the sax recordings, we had no idea that it would be a dark and extremely stormy day. Amidst the ambiance of the oceanfront Avatar Studios, the track found its name. As if guided by Neptune himself, the god of the ocean, my saxophone performance ascended to unprecedented heights.
For over 30 years, I listened to the original recording which was never mixed properly because Narada pulled the plug on further budgeting to pay for the time needed to do a final mix on the song.
The turning point arrived in 2023 when TSean Killeen, a talented engineer, breathed new life into the song. Enriched by Jack Majdecki's orchestral guitar and Doug Ross's robust bass, and refined by my reimagined soprano sax section, "Neptune’s Dream" underwent a transformative rebirth. Today, I am proud to present this timeless piece, once ahead of its time, now ready to leave an enduring mark on the music landscape.
